Getting Unstuck from Human Logic and Reason
People can get stuck for various reasons, and the way out is rarely through logic and reason alone. We become stuck when we value these over God’s wisdom and His ways of thinking, which produce true faith and trust. Often, we settle for a more comfortable Gospel that doesn’t require real trust or faith. This mindset leads to a watered-down, lukewarm faith—a Gospel that suggests it’s okay to believe, just don’t be unreasonable or too fanatical about it.
Isaiah 55:9 clearly states, “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
Consider the God who feeds 5,000 with a few loaves and fish, brings down fortified cities by having His people march around and shout, and reduces an army from 30,000 to 300. God does not operate by human logic. The Bible is full of stories proving that He doesn’t move by reason alone.
Misplacing Our Confidence: Putting Logic Above Faith
We often put logic and reason above God’s wisdom and perspective, leading us to lower our expectations to match what we can see or understand. This is where we get stuck. We start lowering our expectations to match what we can see, feel, or understand.
We need more than knowledge of truth. We may know things about the Bible but not experience them in our lives. We need spiritual knowledge of truth, and encounters with God. These encounters can help us break free from our dependence on human logic.
The Necessity of Faith and Trust Over Logic
While human logic and reason aren’t necessarily wrong, our relationship with God is built on faith and trust. He asks us to place our faith in Him, which often seems illogical. As we grow closer to God and embrace His ways through faith, trust, and patience, we begin to live fully. However, we can miss encounters with Him because they don’t always make sense.
- Consider Moses, who was told to strike a rock for water or hold his staff over the Red Sea.
- Young David killed Goliath using his sling shot.
- Gideon was called a “mighty warrior” despite feeling anything but.
If we rely solely on logic for peace, we miss out on what God wants to give us.
Logic, reason and trying to figure things out on our own will never bring true peace. God desires for us to encounter peace that surpasses all human understanding (Philippians 4:7). This peace defies logic; it’s about aligning with God and being at rest in Him.
Hebrews 11:6 emphasizes this need for faith: “It is impossible to please God without faith. To please Him, we must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him sincerely.”
It’s a simple process:
1. Believe that God is with you and for you.
2. Trust that He loves to reward simple faith.
3. Seek Him calmly and confidently, not allowing urgency to detract from peace.
Letters from God
Beloved, is anything too hard for Me? Is there any situation where I can’t show My greatness to you? I know how to handle every circumstance. In truth, you are not a challenge for My loving-kindness, goodness, joy, and patience.
The Power of Trusting God’s Greatness
God once asked Sarah, who laughed at the promise of a son despite her old age, “Is there anything too hard for Me?” The original Hebrew asks if there’s a situation in which God cannot be magnificent toward you. This question invites us to relax and find peace in knowing that if we trust God, He will work His greatness into our lives. God isn’t worried about your situation.
But why do we so often equate worry with caring?
Jesus was sleeping in a boat with His disciples when a storm arose. They woke Him, asking (accusingly), “Jesus, don’t you care that we’re all about to die?” In other words, “Why are you sleeping peacefully through this and not as worried and freaked out as we are?”
We can choose to remain in peace during storms, rather than letting anxiety replace faith. God asks, “Is there anything too hard for me? Is there any situation where I cannot show My greatness to you?”
What Would It Take for You to Believe in His Magnificence?
Imagine if you truly believed in God’s magnificence and greatness in every situation. Relying too much on logic limits our view of God and ourselves. We miss out on the adventure and peace He offers.
This was the case for the twelve spies who explored the Promised Land. Ten saw giants and felt like grasshoppers; Joshua and Caleb viewed those giants as “bread”—an opportunity for God to demonstrate His greatness. Caleb trusted in God’s promise, which is why God called him “a man of a different spirit.”
Embracing the Abundance of His Ways
Everything you need and everything you’re created to be is found in Christ. God placed everything into Christ and then placed you in Him. There is no situation where He can’t show His greatness toward you.
Sometimes, it’s not about solving our problems but encountering the beauty of His higher ways. Even in chaos and difficulties, we can have peace, knowing that if Jesus is with us, we have no reason to fear.
Imagine if the disciples in the boat had just calmed down and understood WHO was with them. If Jesus says, “Let’s cross to the other side,” and then gets in your boat, even when a storm hits, you have more than just logic and reason telling you to panic. You have a God who is always great and wonderful toward you. If Jesus is in your boat, you’re getting to the other side!
Once again, the Lord asks us—Is anything too hard for me? What will it take for you to believe I want to be amazing toward you?
So, I will ask the Lord—What do You want to be for me right now? What encounter do You have for me in my circumstances? Sometimes we focus so much on the destination that we forget to enjoy the journey. We can become troubled by our circumstances and miss the strength we can find in His presence.
God’s top priority is revealing who He is to us in moments of need, inviting us to relax and rest in Him.
You’re Not a Challenge to God
Have you ever felt like you were a challenge to God? But the truth is—you’re not. If you ever feel like you or your situation is a challenge, then there is an invitation from the Lord to get unstuck from that thought and relax in Him. Just hear Him ask one more time—Is there anything too hard for me?
